Rhenium-oxo and gold corroles provide novel examples of "misfit" complexes combining a large 5d metal ion with a sterically constrained corrole ligand (Figure 1). Despite the steric strain inherent in their structures, the complexes exhibit remarkable chemical and photochemical stability. They also exhibit near-IR phosphorescence with emission maxima around 800 nm. This talk will present new results on the remarkable photodynamic activity of these unusual complexes.
