The Green Division’s challenge is to find innovative and creative manners to divulge Green Chemistry fundamentals. The Division pursues sustainability by rethinking the process of obtaining drinking water in our department. To achieve this, we partnered with our environmental technology student society to promote prevention. The new departmental water bottle filling station and stainless steel water bottles influences in the discouragement of disposable plastic bottle use. The Eco-Friendly Fashion Show is another optimal alternative to promote the green chemistry principles to the community. Partnered with the Puerto Rico Local Section, we organized an innovative way to exhibit examples of how green chemistry can be applied to the textile industry comparing “green” textile alternatives to the current harmful ones in the runway. Also, we developed an interactive workshop to demonstrate Green Chemistry as the optimal option, by avoiding the damage from the source before relying on remediating action. The drinking water filling station initiative, the eco-friendly fashion show, and the active learning workshop provoke enthusiasm for a Green solution in our college community. The legacy of our contribution is based on our previous activities but the optimal alternative is evidenced with each innovative approach.
