The ACS CHED Committee on Computers in Chemical Education (CCCE) has been running OLCCs (OnLine Chemistry Courses) since 1996. The acronym OLCC is actually a misnomer dating to the early days of the web and today these would not be considered as online courses, but as a form of distributed collaboratively taught multi-campus hybrid courses. These involve two types of faculty, residential facilitators who interact f2f with students of a specific campus, and online experts who are from both academic and nonacademic institutions and interact with students from multiple campuses. The Spring 2017 Cheminformatics OLCC will be ongoing during the Spring ACS meeting, with schools offering it as either a 1, 2 or 3 credit hour course. This presentation will focus on the challenges of hosting an intercollegiate course designed to provide multiple learning trajectories, and enable both student and faculty learning across multiple campuses. An effort will be made to include a reflective “lessons learned” with regards to collaborative curriculum development and multi-campus curriculum implementation, with an eye on the future of OLCCs.
