Formaldehyde is one of the indoor poisonous volatile organic compounds (VOCs). Exposure to the HCHO would increase the risk of physcial damage, even cancers. Catalytic oxidation is one of the most efficient and cost-effective technologies for removing HCHO due to its lower reaction temperature required and the no energy demanded.1-2 Noble metal based catalysts is known as efficient catalysts for removing HCHO at room temperature. However, the application of noble metal catalysts are restricted by their high cost and limited resource. Therefore, it is of great necessary to develop more active and cost-effective catalysts for application in the indoor HCHO elimination. Herein, we found that tungsten doped MnO2 played a role as a green catalysts and low-cost material to removal of formaldehyde at ambient conditions. When the high valent W6+ cations were doped MnO2, the morphology and crystal structure were charged, resulting in an increase in specific areas and the numbers of active surface sites. The W-MnO2 not only exhibited a high adsorption capacity for HCHO but also exhibited catalytic activity for oxidation of HCHO to CO2. It may be helpful for the development of promising HCHO materials for indoor air purification.
