Chemistry is all around us. From the leaves on the trees to the food we eat and the clothes we wear, we find connections with chemistry in every aspect of our daily lives, whether we realize it or not. The UMM ACS Student Chapter’s mission is to: promote students’ general knowledge of chemistry, to provide a medium for students to investigate and discuss chemistry-related topics of interest, and to provide educational material of interest that is outside the realm of the chemistry curriculum. To accomplish these goals we host a number of fun and educational events throughout the academic year. These include networking events with faculty and alumni, volunteer “journal club” presentations, and Science Sensations programs at our local elementary school to encourage interest in chemistry among the next generation of scientists. With a focus on green chemistry, we hope to inspire appreciation for the natural world around us through the lens of scientific discovery.
