In the age-old General Chemistry experiment involving the titration of antacid tablets, a commercially available tablet such as Tums, Rolaids, or Gaviscon is ground with a mortar and pestle and then titrated with a standardized HCl solution. This work presents the results of using a tablet press to create novel antacid formulations out of common antacid ingredients and two types of binding agents to be used in this lab.
