Influenza virus and foot and mouth disease virus (FMDV) have influenced on economics and human health. It is important to develop specific and sensitive detection systems suitable for each virus infection. In this study, we investigated the influenza virus and FMDV specific detection methods based on the antibody conjugated polydiacetylene (PDA) liposome. We developed the optimal polydiacetylene liposomes-based biosensors with different molar ratios of polydiacetylene derivatives and phospholipids including PDA-maleimide, PDA-epoxy, PDA-NHS and various phospholipid groups. The color transition was observed by naked eye and measured by a UV-vis spectrometer. The size distribution and morphology of each liposome was determined by dynamic light scattering (DLS) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The sensitivity, specificity and the accuracy of the biosensors were also evaluated. These results give the possibility and the potential of simple polydiacetylene-phospholipid based bioanalytical methods for virus surveillance.
