Formation of imines of hindered ketones with hindered primary amines under traditional coniditions require elevated temperatures, lengthy reaction times, and are usually accompanied by poor yields. In connection with the ongoing development of undergraduate organic chemistry laboratory experiments, conditions for facile and rapid formation of the camphor imines of a selection of substituted benzylamines were sought.  Results from the investigation of different catalysts and conditions on the efficacy of imine formation will be presented.
