Ligands <i>MePySalH</i> and <i>PySalH</i> were synthesized by reacting α-methyl-2-pyridinemethanamine or 2-pyridinemethanamine, respectively with salicylaldehyde. These ligands were reacted with Ni(II) ion to produce low-spin complexes. The influence of the α-methyl group on the structural and spectroscopic properties of the complexes will be discussed in detail.
