We have measured photolysis kinetics of several aromatic pollutants including substituted benzenes and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in liquid and frozen freshwater and saltwater solutions. Pollutant photolysis kinetics can be very different in frozen vs. liquid water, and halide salts can either enhance or suppress photolysis, depending on the pollutant. We have also used Raman microscopy to investigate the distribution of halide salts at ice surfaces. Our results show that frozen saltwater surfaces have heterogeneous compositions, and may present multiple distinct reaction environments.<br/>
