Compared to transition metals, the organometallic chemistry of the actinides is relatively unexplored. Over the years, our laboratory has successfully utilized the bis(pentamethylcyclopentadienyl) platform to support thorium and uranium complexes allowing the exploration of uranium in unusual oxidation states, uranium-multiple bonds, reactions uniquely enabled by f-orbitals, and metal-metal communication. A brief history of personal publications and the influence that Bruce Bursten has had on the research and career of the speaker will be presented, followed by discussion of recent selected results.
