Aza analogues of flavonoids are a critical class of heterocyclic molecules known to demonstrate a vast assortment of potent biological properties including antibacterial, antitumor, antifungal, anti-inflammatory, anthelmintic, antibiotic and antihypertensive activities. Among these derivatives, those molecules bearing the dihydroquinolin-4(1H)-one moiety have demonstrated great utility as building blocks for the synthesis of both medically important compounds and natural products. Among the potent biological properties outlined above for the aza flavonoid analogues encompassing the dihydroquinolin-4(1H)-one moiety, the most critical are their antitumor abilities, which closely compare to resveratrol and quercetin and their antioxidant capacities which were recently assessed using ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP) assays. In these assays, the antioxidant capacity of the molecules was compared to that of trolox, a water-soluble analogue of vitamin E used as the standard for such assays. We have reported the first structure of any 2,3-dihydroquinolin-4(1H)-one derivative and of this powerful antitumor complex. Structural analysis of the title molecule’s solid state structure revealed a network of intermolecular hydrogen bonding interactions between neighboring molecules in the lattice.
