Amazonian plants have yielded a large number of biologically interesting compounds, however there is still much to discover. Although there have been reports of novel compounds isolated from the fruit of Garcinia binucao, the bark of this species has been much less explored. The focus of this study is to extract and isolate novel compounds from the bark of Garcinia binucao. An enzymatic extraction protocol was used to release compounds in the powdered bark. Column chromatography and HPLC were used to purify the enzymatic fractions which were then characterized by IR and NMR.
