In this project metal thiolate complexes were prepared and tested as bifunctional catalysts. An OMeNS thiolate ligand was prepared following a previously reported procedure. Various spectroscopic characterizations (1H, 13C{1H}, 1H-15N HSQC, and IR) confirmed that the ligand is a cyclic benzothiazolidine in contrast to the literature’s acyclic isomer. Several Fe(II) and Co(I) complexes were synthesized using the OMeNS thiolate ligand and chelating phosphines. These complexes were tested as catalysts for amine-borane dehydrogenation. Preliminary results have shown promise in the dehydrogenation of methylamine-borane (MeAB).
