For 46 years Saundra Y. McGuire has been facilitating, encouraging, and celebrating student success.  In 2011 she was a speaker at the Gordon Research Conference on Chemistry Education Research and Practice where she inspired the faculty to use the strategies to foster student success that she has pioneered to such a great effect.  Her presentation was literally life changing in terms of how I mentored students in my courses and the emphasis that we put on helping students learn how to study more effectively.  Additionally Saundra has been my go to person when I needed help crafting strategies to encourage students to spend time engaging in the material.  I’ll share stories of implementing Saundra’s strategies including how to simultaneously encourage a student to study effectively and increase the amount of time you spend exercising!
