Numerous survey instruments have been developed to measure students’ attitudes toward science in general and toward specific fields such as chemistry. However, none of those instruments address awareness of and attitudes toward scientific <i>research</i>; the Awareness of and Attitudes Toward Scientific Research Inventory (AASRI) was designed to fill this gap in the field. Previously, the AASRI was shown to produce valid and reliable data when administered to general chemistry students at a large public research university in the Midwestern United States. Evaluating data gathered from diverse populations has the potential to increase the usability of any psychometric instrument. To this end, the AASRI was administered to students at a medium-sized public open-access college in the Southeastern United States. Evidence for various forms of validity and reliability of these data will be discussed, along with implications for using the instrument in this kind of population and comparisons between the two student populations.
