In recent years, efforts have been made to recycle iridium catalyst following C-H borylation reactions. Nishida and co-workers have shown that combining [IrCl(COD)]2, 2,2’-bipyridinedicarboxylic (DCAbpy), and bis(pinacolato)diboron (B2pin2) forms an insoluble complex with good catalytic activity. They demonstrated that this catalyst system can be reused up to 10 times. Herein we will discuss reactivity differences between this insoluble iridium catalyst complex and more traditional CH borylation catalysts against a broad range of substrates. Additional investigations into the structure and reusability of the catalyst complex will also be presented.
