Traditionally, palladium-catalyzed coupling reactions ignore “green” chemistry principles in favor of greater utility and higher yields. Some solid-supported palladium is used, but the catalytic activity in some cases results only from the free, or leached, palladium, and is then no better than the homogenous systems. We have designed a novel palladium catalyst that is able to perform Sonogashira and Suzuki coupling reactions in aqueous solvent. High yields are even obtained in the presence of oxygen, making this method highly attractive for the synthesis of biologically important target molecules. We are currently investigating the scope of catalysis, and our progress will be discussed in detail.<br/>
