In the present study, zinc sulfide (ZnS) was used to remove lead and copper from aqueous solutions. The ZnS nanomaterial was synthesized using a solvothermal synthesis method. The ZnS was characterized using a combination of XRD and SEM. Different solution parameters were studied for their effects on the binding of both Pb and Cu. More specifically batch studies were performed to investigate the effects of pH, time, temperature, interfering ions, and the binding capacity. Batch pH profile studies showed the optimum pH for the binding of both Pb and Cu was pH 5. All further studies were conducted at pH 5. Additionally, the isotherm studies showed the binding followed the Langmuir isotherm model and the binding capacities for both Pb and Cu were 128 mg/g and 270 mg/g for ZnS, respectively at 25 C. The thermodynamic parameters for the binding indicated that the process for both Pb and Cu were non-spontaneous using ZnS.<br/>
