The hydrogenation of CO2 holds promise as a solution to atmospheric CO2 buildup via carbon recycling. We recently reported a series of N,N,N-pincer based ruthenium complexes that are active catalysts for hydrogenation, dehydrogenation, and hydroboration reactions. This presentation will outline the CO2 hydrogenation activity of ruthenium complexes containing a variety of bis(pyridyl)isoindoline-derived ligands. Key structure/function relationships as they relate to catalyst activity and stability will be delineated to provide insight for the design of superior catalysts.
