The chemistry of high- and low-valent rhenium oxo complexes supported by the β-diketiminate (BDI) ligand will be discussed. While cultivating reactivity at the oxo moiety has been the emphasis of our work, other modes of reactivity were observed over the course of our synthetic efforts. This reactivity, involving various sources of the cyclopentadienide ligand, allowed us to access a multitude of low-valent terminal oxo complexes. To gain insight into how these low-valent oxo-rhenium moities are stabilized, we turned to density functional theory (DFT) to model their electronic structures. Reactivity studies of these compounds with various small molecules will also be presented.
