Lithium demand is expected to grow dramatically in the near future due to the development of lithium-ion batteries; therefore, many researchers have been trying to find new lithium sources. Shale gas produced water which is hypersaline wastewater generated after hydraulic fracturing contains a significant amount of useful metal resources such as lithium. The authors tried to recover Li during the treatment of the shale gas produced water using several techniques.<br/>Two techniques including organic solvent extraction and adsorption had been tested and the result showed that about 40 – 50 % of Li in shale gas produced water had been recovered with high selectivity.
