The nationally recognized Learning Assistant (LA) model, based at U. Colorado, Boulder has been transformed for the community college setting. LAs are recruited to assist in chemistry classrooms and labs with various unique assignments to enhance student engagement. LAs get an opportunity to 'try on teaching' as they work one-on-one with their faculty mentors throughout the semester. Highlights on faculty mentorship and reflection on teaching for the LAs will be presented. LA student perspectives, opportunities for collaboration, and transfer initiatives with 4-year colleges and universities for the LAs will be discussed. Come see how the LAs, their faculty mentors, chemistry students and the field of STEM education can all benefit from this collaboration.
