The Chemistry Club at CSUS is driven to provide students with opportunities to explore chemistry through community outreach, on-campus activities, and professional development. Our club proudly hosts and participates in events that enrich the lives of our members and the surrounding community. We present workshops for the annual Expanding Your Horizons conference held at CSUS, whose purpose is to inspire interest in STEM fields and careers for middle-school girls. We also visit Shriners Hospital for children and perform interesting and unique demonstrations. Through activities involving the chemical and physical properties of matter, we hope to spark genuine interest and curiosity in chemistry and science. We observe National Chemistry Week by hosting a celebration of Mole Day in the natural sciences building, and by presenting a booth for the CSUS homecoming festival. Our activities at these events allow students and the greater campus community to learn basic chemical concepts in a fun, relaxed, and accessible environment. The CSUS chapter promotes professional development opportunities in chemistry by hosting resume workshops, guest speakers (for example, recently graduated alumni who work in industry jobs), and ACS webinars at our biweekly meetings. These events help our members learn more about the possibilities that their studies provide. We also travel to and tour the facilities of different industrial laboratories such as AMPAC Fine Chemicals, Bayer Crop Science, Sierra-Nevada Brewery, and more. By exposing our members to a broad range of different professional environments, we make sure that our students are aware of the many different career paths that are available to them. The Chemistry Club at CSUS strives to ensure that our members are prepared, excited, and confident about their futures in chemistry.
