Copper complexes are found in a variety of critical biological systems, including exhibiting oxidative catalytic function in enzymatic systems. This research is focused on the synthesis of ligands based upon the amides of 2,6-pyridinedicarboxylic acid and exploration of their copper(II) complexes. These pyridine-bisamide (PBA) ligands can be readily synthesized from a variety of amine starting materials to probe a variety of electronic, steric, and solubility properties of the ligands and their resulting copper(II) complexes. Initial studies have examined a variety of modified aniline starting materials as a test case for the ligand synthesis with reasonable success, and we have begun to synthesize and characterize the copper(II) complexes of these ligands.<br/>
