Three novel compounds prepared in our laboratory have been tested for anticancer activity by MTS assay. The methods of cell death and rates have been studied. The compounds are indolyl amines synthesized in an effort to prepare new iron-chelating drugs, as well as anticancer agents. A trisindolyl triamine derivative showed some activity in the National Cancer Institute’s Developmental Therapeutics Program, so it was further tested, along with related products. An MTS assay on K562 cells (a human leukemia cell line) was run on all three compounds to measure each compound's effect on cell viability. While two of the compounds tested actually increased cell viability, one of the compounds, trisindolyl triamine, caused a significant decreased cell viability.
