Thermoelectric (TE) technology is an environmentally friendly and cost-effective means of converting heat into electricity directly. Recent studies showed that a single crystal of p-type SnSe exhibits the record-high ZT value of ~ 2.6 at 923 K because of ultralow lattice thermal conductivity. According to the first-principles calculations, even higher ZT value is expected for its n-type counterpart. However, very few experimental studies have been reported on it. Indeed, it is difficult to stabilize high performance n-type SnSe-based materials because the ubiquitous formation of Sn vacancy is thermodynamically stable and it serves as an electron acceptor. In this presentation, we report the development of new high performance n-type polycrystalline SnSe-based compounds. We introduce various dopants to induce n-type conduction behavior and investigate their influence on structural and thermoelectric properties SnSe-based materials. We also present scanning transmission electron microscopic studies to better understand transport properties of the compounds
