Bimetallic oxide catalysts with varying stoichiometries can be prepared by the use of gel precursors, followed by slow removal of the parent solvent and sintering.  This study investigated the compositional changes that occur and the elemental variations in the end  product using this synthetic route.  Using these processes, a final product of variable composition can be prepared to also ultimately produce bimetallic oxide thin films from the bulk product with any desired lattice constant.  The bulk materials can be used to produce thin films for study by different techniques such as X-ray diffraction, X-ray photoelectron, and infrared spectroscopy.
