Organic reactions in confined volumes - thin films and microdroolets - can occur rapidly and the reactions can be monitored on-line by mass spectrometry. It is shown that the use of electrospray ionization or paper spray ionization allows mg/min synthesis.  Examples discussed include  the Gould-Jacobs and the Buchwald-Hartwig reactions.  Rapid evaluation of reactivity is achieved using electrosonic sprays to create charged droplets as well as a neutral droplet sprayer. Scale-up is acheived using Liedenfrost droplets.
