Tuning the release of guest molecules from delivery vehicles to a solution in response to stimuli is important for many biological applications. Here, we present a set of logic gated dendrimer-based amphiphilic assemblies, where supramolecular disassembly and non-covalent guest release can be tuned to occur: (1) only if both light and specific protein present, while either light or protein as single stimulus is not able to induce disassembly independently (AND logic); (2) single stimulus light or protein and combination of protein and light are applied to the system (OR logic). We envision that this AND/OR logic gated disassembly system could provide opportunities to enhance selectivity for diagnostics and targeted delivery.
