Supercritical carbon has been considered as an attractive heat transfer fluid for heat exchangers and geothermal heat extraction. This is because supercritical carbon dioxide is an environmental benign working fluid. It is inexpensive, abundant, more chemically stable, and it can extract more heat from a geothermal reservoir compared to water. In this paper we will report our new and simple correlation equations for accurately calculating density (ρ), viscosity (μ), thermal conductivity (λ), and isobaric specific heat (cp) of supercritical carbon dioxide for the range of temperatures ( TC = 304K to 600 K) and pressures (7 MPa to 60 MPa) that are typically found in geothermal heat extraction and carbon sequestration applications. Comparing with the data from NIST web database, our simple correlation equations can predict these properties with an average absolute error ranging from 0.1% for 20 MPa &lt; P ≤ 60 MPa and about 2.7% for 7 MPa ≤ P ≤ 20 MPa. Although there are few correlation equations for calculating these properties are available, these equations contain too many coefficients that need to be experimentally fitted and they are not able to predict these properties with high accuracy in the critical region. Our equations contain only few coefficients that are determined using available experimental data.
