X-ray absorption spectroscopy has proven to be a very powerful tool in the arsenal of catalysis science and technology. Indeed, XAS provides a sensitive, specific probe, which informs on the electronic configuration and nearest coordination environment of the element under investigation, regardless of the material phase and crystallinity. The method is fully compatible with multiple reactor designs and hence a natural choice for in-situ and operando experiments. A combination of XAS in the tender and hard regions covers all the elements relevant for catalysis.<br/> <br/>With the development of third generation synchrotron source, new opportunities have opened, allowing for faster and more sensitive detection of catalytically important states. In this talk, I will discuss Spectroscopy program at the National Synchrotron Light Source-II, with the emphasis on: 1. Quick scanning, permitting acquisition of high quality EXAFS data within seconds or faster; 2. Full integration of the XAS experiments with sample conditioning infrastructure, such as gas handling system; 3. High-resolution absorption and emission spectroscopy taking advantage of novel the crystal analyzer spectrometers; 4. Combinatorial experiments matching the capacity of high throughput catalysis synthesis and testing and; 5. Combination of XAS with other in-situ methods such as X-ray diffraction and  vibration spectroscopy.  The combination of these tools which are to become available to the catalysis community in the near future, at NSLS-II and beyond, will allow to unravel many complexities underlying intricate catalytic processes. The latest results from NSLS-II will be discussed.<br/>
