A series of thiophene annulated butterfly [2Fe-2S] complexes was synthesized and characterized via NMR, IR, and UV-Vis spectroscopy. Crystal structures were obtained for 1, 2, and 4 and these compounds were investigated for their potential as electrocatalysts for the reduction of protons to hydrogen gas. In addition, the electrochemical oxidation and electropolymerization of these compounds were studied.
