Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) are volatile, toxic compounds that lack mechanisms for degradation. Long range transport (LRT) allows POPs to enter the pristine ecosystems of the the Eastern Sierra Nevada Mountains, CA and The Wind River Range, WY due to their close proximity to agricultural hubs. It has been well documented that POPs have a high binding affinity to organic carbon. This research seeks to identify the concentrations of these POPs, specifically focusing on 4-Nonylphenol, ketoprofen, and pyrene, measuring the concentration and desorption rates into water of these POPs bound to black carbon and organic. Dust samples were collected for analysis while desorption rates are being determined via small batch desorption assays using GC/MS for analysis. POPs attached to the dust particles have been quantified at low levels, however, the results from the small batch desorption assays are still pending. <br/>
