A new approach to construct bicyclic α-carbonyl furans from easily accessible diynones is described. The entire transformation is a sequence of Diels-Alder cycloaddition and oxycyclization reaction catalyzed by dimethylaluminum chloride and copper chloride respectively. This methodology generates dihydroisobenzofuran derivatives in very good yields.
