Nagalamides are a group of pyrrole-imidazole alkaloids isolated from an Okinawan marine sponge, <i>Agelas sp.</i> In our lab, we are utilizing the divergent strategy to synthesize both of these molecules from a common intermediate. Palladium-catalyzed Stille cross-coupling reaction between a vinyl stannane and an aryl iodide is the key step to construct the scaffold of the intermediate. The N atoms at C2 and the terminal positions of the carbon chains were installed by azidation followed by the reduction. Then the subsequent aceylation will complete the total synthesis of nagelamide A and C.
