Using ultraviolet high pressure liquid chromatography (UV-HPLC) at 254 and 210 nm, phenol and phenylamine alcohol samples were tested using both a perfluorinated and non-perfluorinated columns. While both columns are C8, the notable difference is that the non-perfluorinated contains hydrogen and the perfluorinated contains fluorine. The intended goal of the experiment is to see how the fluorine functional group influences analyte retention. The bonded phases, as a separation medium, were evaluated through HPLC for properties and application comparison of the two columns.
