<br/>MicroRNA-21 (miR-21) is one of the most ubiquitously dysregulated miRNA in cancer.  This oncogenic miRNA contributes to cancer through the post transcriptional regulation of numerous tumor suppressor genes associated with proliferation, invasion and apoptosis. Oncostatin M (OSM) is a pleiotropic cytokine linked to cellular responses that include growth, differentiation and inflammation as well as anti-proliferative activity in cancer cells lines and solid tumors. In this project, we show that OSM signaling affects miR-21 mediated regulation of PTEN expression, not by decreasing miR-21 levels in HeLa cells, but by inhibiting miR-21function. Furthermore, we elucidate the role of JAK/STAT signaling in the OSM induced alteration in miR-21 mediated translational repression.<br/>
