Altersolanol P (AP), a new member of the altersolanol family of compounds, is the inspiration for multiple synthetic studies in our laboratory. Previously, we synthesized an intermediate, containing the complete carbon framework of AP, via Lewis acid-mediated Diels-Alder cycloaddition on multi-gram scale (in 80% yield and 8:1 regioselectivity).  Current synthetic efforts are focused on dihydroxylation and epoxidation reactions of the Diels-Alder adduct. The long-term goal of this research project is to synthesize AP, and structurally related derivatives, as efficiently as possible; then, the biological activities of AP, and related compounds, can be further studied.<br/>
