A Course-Based Undergraduate Research Experience, or CURE, was developed in the context of an upper-level organic chemistry laboratory course at Indiana University. The focus of the research project was <i>Identifying Small Molecule Tools for the Study of Bacterial Quorum Sensing</i>. Undergraduate research experience has been shown to increase retention of students in STEM majors and, importantly, CUREs have been shown to increase this retention in the same manner as traditional research experiences. This course was developed with the goal of lowering the barrier for students to engage in undergraduate research projects, and to offer this important educational and growth experience to any interested student.  All aspects of this course will be discussed, including research project design and development, student outcomes, and areas for improvement.
