The replacement of the organic solids naphthalene, diphenylamine, and p-dichlorobenzene with low toxicity compounds that provide clear binary phase diagrams in a typical undergraduate physical chemistry laboratory was achieved.  The heat of fusion values and transition temperatures of multiple compounds were initially used to identify suitable solid organic substances for use in the determination of suitable binary phase diagrams.  Several compounds have been studied in order to determine their suitability for replacing the current commonly used systems.  The properties of phase transition have been analyzed by constructing cooling curves and binary phase diagrams through experimentation with these substances and several identified as good candidates for use in the physical chemistry laboratory.
