Carbon dioxide global emissions from combustion processes are the main contributor to the observed rising of concentrations of atmospheric CO2 which causes of global warming and climate change.The strong correlation between atmospheric CO2 concentration and global climate change has motivated intensive research for the development of cost-effective CO2 capture processes for the control of CO2 emissions from coal-fired power plants, the largest single CO2 source. Adsorption with solid sorbents is one of the most promising options for post combustion (CO2) capture due to its several advantages over the conventional liquid absorption process such as the minimal amounts of energy required for the capturing technology low energy consumption associated with regeneration, low toxicity of the materials, infinite regenerability, large adsorption capacity, and high stability of the sorbents. Next generations of CO2 capture technologies can be achieved by improving the efficiency, reducing the cost of capture and better integration in power generation. Currently, graphene based porous adsorbents are of great interest because of their porous structure together with the exceptional intrinsic properties of monolayer graphene, nanoporous graphene materials have high specific surface areas and large pore volumes, which ensure a high and rapid adsorption of CO2. In this work, functionalized Graphene oxide adsorbents were synthesized using silane derivatives, such as (3-Aminopropyl)triethoxysilane (APTES), tris(2-aminoethyl) amine (TREN) and tetraethylenepentamine (TEPA). Their exhaustive morphological and physical characterization were confirmed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), small angle X-ray scattering (SAXS), N2 physisorption, and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The CO2 adsorption capacity of these materials was investigated and the influence of textural properties on the CO2 uptake studied. CO2 diffusion can be accelerated by more amine sites exposed and accessible for CO2 sorption. As a result, the sorption capacity increases at a temperature of 25 °C and a pressure of ∼1 atm.
