With dwindling fossil fuels and rising concern about their impacts on climate, it is of vital importance to exploit energy from renewable sources to meet increasing energy/chemicals demand. In this aspect, I will discuss the reactivity trend in electrochemical synthesis of fuels and chemicals, using CO2 electroreduction and H2O oxidation as examples. The major challenges for modeling complex electrochemical interfaces will also be addressed.
