Nature-inspired and biocompatible carriers can find several applications in the emerging field of biomedical science and engineering. Herein we present magnetic, paramagnetic and fluorescent polysaccharide microparticles for the potential use in drug delivery, hyperthermia and medical imaging. Such biomaterials are based on glucan microparticles (GPs) derived from baker's yeast. Microbial glucan shows high affinity towards immune system and ability of its activation. GPs were labeled with different fluorescent dyes and visualized with confocal microscopy. Magnetic and paramagnetic nanostructured microcomposites were synthesized by <i>in situ</i> precipitation method in the presence or absence of capping agents, when GPs were acting as microreactors. The surface morphology of prepared materials was observed with SEM and TEM. Stability of dispersed particles, particle size distribution and its evolution within a time was measured on a coulter counter and with a static light scattering. SAR numbers for different composites were calculated from data observed from exposure to RF-field and relaxation times for these materials were measured on MRI. The theranostic potential of prepared materials was tested on murine macrophages <i>in vitro</i>. Adhesion of microcomposites in 3D perfusion bioreactor was monitored by MRI.
