Nitrogen contamination is a significant problem in up to 15% of the natural gas reserves in the US. A novel method of purification is being explored which involves binding nitrogen to iron phosphine molecules that have been embedded into polymers. As a part of this project, we are synthesizing chelating bisphosphine ligands with polymerizable groups on the phosphine substituents.  Based on prior work by Doyle <i>et al.</i>, routes to 1,2-bis(di-4-vinylbenzylphosphino)ethane and 1,2-bis(di-4-vinylphenylphosphino)ethane from inexpensive starting materials are presented.<br/>
