Microwave-Assisted Organic Synthesis allows for better temperature control, reaction time, pressure control and reduction of side reactions.  This new approach to synthesizing molecules also falls in the category of green chemistry due to its ability to allow reaction procedures to become not only more efficient but environmentally friendly. In the experiment conducted microwave radiation was used to synthesize indoles via the Fischer Indole synthesis using an acetic acid catalyst. Solutions of phenylhydrazine and cyclohexanone were irradiated at 210 °C for 3 minutes using 200W of power, yielding 96% of indole. Cyclohexanone derivatives were also explored in an effort to create a new guided-inquiry laboratory.<br/>
