ACS Exams has conducted an annual survey of postsecondary chemistry faculty since 2011 on topics such as assessment practices, instructional practices, representation use in biochemistry, and the nature of conceptual exam items. In adherence with the <i>National Center for Education Statistics Standards and Guidelines</i>, ACS Exams has been collecting institutional characteristics and faculty title data that allow the Institute to identify response and non-response rates within the chemistry faculty sample. These data allow the Institute to better design and implement sampling strategies for national surveys, as well as allow the Institute to weight data from the sample to provide better generalizations of results to the population. We will present information on framing the population, selecting representative samples, calculating unit response rates, determining the extent to which respondents and non-respondents differ, and assigning weights. Findings will be presented that show how weighted and non-weighted analyses differ.
