The synthesis of polynuclear metal complexes has been attracted much attention due to their application in tandem or synergetic catalysis. Polynuclear metal complexes represent an efficient way for the construction of new catalytic systems for the synthesis of complex organic molecules via an one-pot reaction. Most of the synthetic strategies for preparation of bimetallic NHC metal complexes start with the synthesis of bisazolium salts. A stepwise metalation is enabled either by the different coordination modes of the ligand or by different reactivities of the metal centers.
