Redox Flow Batteries (RFBs) based on aqueous electrolyte systems have been interested in large scale energy storage system (ESS) because of their flexible design, durability and inflamability. However, the commercialization of these systems has been difficult for their low energy density due to the limited cell potential by the hydrolysis of water at high potential. Recently, the investigations for the various non-aqueous RFB systems have been examined to overcome the limitations of aqueous RFBs. The stability of tris(acetylacetonato)vanadium (V(acac)<sub>3</sub>) complex was investigated using various spectroscopic experiments including the cyclic voltammetry, UV-visible spectroscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS).
