Reaction of 3-coordinate and trigonal copper(I) thiamine complexes, CuThX2 (X = Cl , Br , I , ClO4 , SCN , PF6) with a water-soluble porphyrin, 5,10,15,20-tetrakis(2,4-dimethyl-5-sulfonatophenyl)porphyrin in aqueous medium and at room temperature immediately produced metalloporphyrins. The reaction solution shows an intense peak at 414-415 nm (Soret) and one Q-band at 538-539 nm characteristic of metalloporphyrins based on UV-Vis spectral analysis. The metalloporphyrins produced from these reactions are 4-coordinate and square planar.
